62.1-2013 COMPLY-DOAS

"Quick and Easy" Calculation Programs and "Optimization" Procedures for compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2013 DOAS, "Ventilation Rate Procedure".  Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) is used to supply outdoor air directly to the building zones to satisfy occupant ventilation requirements.  Psychrometric calculations are included, based on project location weather data (USA and International weather data included), and provide recommended supply air conditions to offset internal latent loads.

"Optimization" routines identify worst-case zone(s) latent load and increase air quantity to the critical zone(s), which can significantly reduce required DOAS coil load.

Project Information

Calculations Take-off Form

Blank Take-off Form sheets can be printed and used to assemble all of the required input data for each air handling system.  Typical systems require only six input values per zone.  Input sheets can also be filled in on the computer and the values copied to the input locations in the programs. Outdoor Air Requirement Calculations

The purpose of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2013 is to specify the minimum ventilation rates and indoor air quality that will be acceptable to human occupants, and which is intended to minimize the potential for adverse health effects.  These Software Programs calculate the required Outdoor Air Quantity for each Air Handling System, based on Space Type/Application, Occupancy Level, and Floor Areas.  (Click Image to enlarge)doasscreen1.jpg (138819 bytes)

DOAS Supply Air Temperature Calculations

Below the “Required Outdoor Air Intake Flow” results and on the “DOAS-Loads” sheet are a series of psychrometric-based calculations, to help determine the recommended Supply Air Discharge Temperature.  The calculations are based on the Occupant (and Miscellaneous) Latent load for the air handling system.  The resulting SA temperature is determined by psychrometric calculations of: the Design Outdoor Air conditions (DB and WB) at the project location; the anticipated occupant latent load, based on the occupancy classification (expected activity level) and the total number of occupants; humidity ratio difference required to offset occupant latent load; psychrometric evaluation of the resulting saturated wet bulb (WB) temperature, using elevation-corrected factors for the project location; and the Total Heat requirement of the cooling coil based on the Enthalpy difference between the Design Outdoor conditions (minus Energy Recovery Wheel enthalpy reduction, if applicable) and the calculated Supply Air Discharge Temperature (Saturated Air Condition).

"Optimization" routines perform multiple iterations to improve supply air conditions to latent-load critical zones.  Outdoor air quantity is increased to the worst-case zone, based on internal latent loads, which may then make another zone the new worst-case zone.  OA is then increased to the new critical zone, etc..  This Optimization can significantly reduce the Total Load on the DOAS unit, since the required supply air enthalpy difference is reduced as the "drier" OA quantity is increased to the critical zone(s).  The final supply air condition is established to maintain the designed space relative humidity.

Compliance Documentation

Compliance Documents can be printed after completing the calculations and can be submitted as a Compliance Record to the appropriate Building Department or Code Authority. It is recommended that the following Output Pages, Assumptions, and Diagrams be printed out, to assist with Building Department review:
